Changes:

• Fixed a bug where sometimes certain months were not selectable in the date picker widget when trying to set the publication date.
• Improved handling of CBZ archives by supporting old PKZip archives.
• KRM updated to 1.0.7.

The last few updates have seen problems with the selecting of a publication date. Thanks to everybody who contacted me about it. It seems the standard Cocoa widget NSDatePicker is a bit buggy. If you set a timezone on it, say UTC, certain combinations of months and years can't be selected, such as October 2007 (which flips to November 2007 immediately). Strange, but true!

PandoraJam Update: 1.2 (build 217)

Changes:

• Changed Preference options and user interface related to duplicate recordings so it is easier to use.
• Fixed a bug where placeholder artwork was being used to tag recordings even when artwork tagging option turned off.
• Fixed a bug where duplicate checking in a station's playlist in iTunes was not working properly.
• Fixed an issue where iTunes would pop to the front of the desktop after a recording was added to a playlist.

Changes:

• Improved multiple comic editing by displaying existing common data with checkboxes to toggle whether fields are to be changed.
• Added option to tweak laptop rotation due to hardware differences found in the laptop accelerometers.
• Added option to keep the last modified date of comic files when setting the Finder icon.
• Added higher quality cover artwork and Finder icons, of size 512x512 (visible in Leopard).
• Added large application icon (visible in Leopard).
• Fixed a bug in displaying the publication date of comics after editing multiple comics.

The large icons for comics will be visible in Leopard, however you need to open or import the comics again for the icons to be set. In the future, I will add batch operations so you can update cover artwork, icons, convert between comic formats, etc. for many comics at once.

The Duke Is Listening!

Paul Lamere over at Sun recently discovered PandoraJam, and he likes it :-) Positive feedback from users is always appreciated, especially from fellow engineers.

It turns out that Paul heard about PandoraJam from a recent podcast: This Week In Media #75. Check out the thoughts of the TWIM team, approx. 1hr 8mins into the episode. It's heart-warming to know that PandoraJam changed the way they think about Pandora.

Now, Paul pondered the role that PandoraJam might play - if any - in the future of Pandora. In my opinion, PandoraJam plays a positive role by introducing new listeners to the Pandora music service and more importantly, encouraging existing listeners to stay tuned in for longer (as the TWIM team say, it keeps them rockin').

The future of Pandora and other net radio stations is all to do with the rise in royalty rates which the music industry is demanding, rather than innovative third party software and mash-ups, giving music lovers what they want. The real question to ask is, when will the music industry start listening to their own customers?
