SXSW - Over 700 free songs for you

If you're on the lookout for new music, the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival which was held last month in Austin, Texas, is a good place to start. Check out the official torrent, "SXSW 2007 Showcasing Bands MP3s" which has 739 MP3s and weighs in at 3.1GB.

I've finally listened to all 700+ tracks and have found a few gems. Two tracks which caught my attention were The Priest by Beangrowers, and Laundry And Dishes by Adrienne Pierce. Here are my favourites and I encourage you to explore and find your own tunes!
  • Paradise - Ana Laan
  • Laundry And Dishes - Adrienne Pierce
  • Bulgarian Chicks - Balkan Beat Box
  • The Priest - Beangrowers
  • Featherweight - Second Movement
  • Que No Te Digan - Ceci Bastida
  • Letting You Go - Faktion
  • Us annexed - Grand Island
  • Poisonous Emblem - The KBC
  • Mothership - Kid Beyond
  • Modern Love - The Last Town Chorus
  • Into the Black - Ruby Isle
  • Human What? - Spigga
  • Funked Up And Freaked Out - Kava Kava
  • Way Back - Keith Killgo Jazz
  • I LIKE YOU - The Moog
  • Same God - Sean Hayes
  • What in the world - Shapes Have Fangs
  • Dude, You Feel Electrical - Shout Out Out Out Out
  • Oye chica - Upground
  • It's Not About What I Want (It's What You Got) - The Woggles
  • Disco Love - Smallwhitelight
p.s. If you need a decent BitTorrent client, I recommend Transmission. Free and open-source.

ComicBookLover Update: Beta 1.3 (build 669) available

A beta of the upcoming ComicBookLover 1.3 is now available for you to download and test.

[Direct Link]
http://www.bitcartel.com/downloads/beta/comicbooklover669ubeta.dmg

To access the beta, you'll need to enter the name of Captain Fantastic himself: steven, gerrard. Things to look out for in this beta are:
  • Apple Remote (operates in Full screen mode)
  • Motion Sensor for laptops (operates in Full screen mode)
  • Preferences under the BETA tab for Apple Remote and Motion Sensor
  • Bugs
Please provide feedback on this beta and help shape the future of ComicBookLover. I'm especially interested in your thoughts on how to best make use of the Apple Remote, motion sensing, and also customisable keyboard short-cuts (if you already use applications which allow this, let me know which ones you feel have an intuitive user interface and make it easy to adjust short-cuts).

Thanks!

The Beat - Is this the future?

Heidi MacDonald over at The Beat (a great comics blog) has just discovered ComicBookLover, along with my venetian-style cherry-red Ikea blinds...

The future doesn't stand still, so I can't wait to see what Heidi and the rest of you think of ComicBookLover over the coming months. I already have motion sensing for laptops and remote control access up and running in the lab (that's the place with the blinds), and there are lots of new, juicy features appearing over the next few months.

Stay tuned! (Thanks to Brenden for the spot)

The Greatest Story Never Told (TGSNT)

A few months ago I was contacted by the chaps running the 4th Annual TGSNT and I was happy to help sponsor the event and offer a copy of ComicBookLover as part of the booty. The results are in, so check out the competition winners as there are some cool animations and comics for you to enjoy... (Flash based, but hey, it's the story that counts!)

RadioLover on GeekBrief

A new user mentioned they heard about RadioLover on GeekBrief 147 so I had to check it out. Thanks to the GeekBrief crew for spreading the word about how "RadioLover is like Tivo for Internet Radio Streams" (about 1 min 50 secs into the show).

The GeekBrief shows are certainly short, but entertaining, especially when presenter Cali Lewis busts some dance moves on her GBTVPC episodes. Amusing!

p.s. If you spot our software on the ol' internet, let us know!
